Trip Overview
Ama Dablam (6,812m) is the most photographed peak in the Khumbu and a technical Himalayan climb rather than a walk-up trekking peak. After the Lukla flight you trek through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, and Pangboche to Ama Dablam Base Camp.
The climbing period uses Camp 1 and Camp 2 on the southwest ridge, with fixed ropes, a weather window, and High Vision climbing Sherpas. Views of Everest, Lhotse, and the Dudh Koshi valley are constant on a clear day.
This expedition suits climbers with alpine rock/ice experience who want a shorter, steeper objective than an 8,000-metre peak. Spring and autumn are both excellent. You walk out via Namche and fly Lukla to Kathmandu.

Buddhi Rai led my wife and I (and 9 other U.S trekkers aged 40s to 80) on a trek on the Tibetan Plateau (Mustang) and a elephant-and-rhino safari by foot and canoe in Chitwan National Park in October 2025.
