Trip Overview

About The Trip

Dudh Kunda Trekking (4,560m.) is one of the best less explored short treks in the Everest Region. This trek takes you to the lap of Mt. Numbur in the Solukhumbu district. You will experience the authentic lifestyle of Sherpa culture and visit the sacred Dudh Kunda Trek.

Overview

These 10 days trek to Dudh Kunda Trek takes you off the beaten track to explore the lower Everest region. Dudh Kunda is also known as Milky Lake is situated at the foot of Numbur Himal, locally called Shorong Yul Lha. It is believed to be a holy lake and locals used to dip in the holy water. This trek is the combination of tea houses at the lower part and camping as you go to higher altitudes. During the trek, you will get to admire the outstanding views of Mt. Karelung, Numbur Himal, and Maha Kunda Himal.

Revel in the serene ambiance of the lower part of the Everest Region. The trail passes through an amazing dense forest that is rich in both flora and faunas. You will witness beautiful rhododendron flowers and pine forest which makes the forest amazing. If you have good luck then Mountain Thars, Bears, Pheasant, and Jackle can be also seen during this trek.

Overall, this Dudh Kunda trek is a medium trek that offers less climbing with some elevation coming across the rugged mountains and snow-capped mountains enveloped and waters of crystalline brightness.

Just imagine this mesmerizing landscape that you will get to explore. We assure you that you will have a great time going on this Dudh Kunda Trek. Book this short and wonderful trek with us now!!

Dudh Kunda Trek Route:

Trekking to the Dudh Kunda commenced after the picturesque drive over the Phaplu in the morning. You will pass through the scenic village, hills, and mountains through the road. We will trek the next day to the rhododendron forest and amazingly green hills to reach Ringmo. To reach Ringmo it takes about 4-5 hours. Next morning, we will head to Sarsar Beni after the 6-7 hours of whole day trek. As we reach Sarsar Beni we will set a camp to spend the night there. Today morning you will reach the highest altitude of your trek at Dudh Kunda. During the trek, you will be blessed with glorious Mt. Numbur (6,959m) and Mt. Karyalung (6,681m), and other mountains. We will then trek ahead to Pare Danda from Sarsar from where we will be able to enjoy the outstanding view of close-up mountains. We will continue our trek until we reach Junbesi.

From Junbesi we will then walk ahead to Beni early in the morning. After some hours of walking, we will reach ahead to Phaplu. We will then drive back to Kathmandu from Phaplu via public transportation. As we reach Kathmandu, we will transfer you to your hotel.

Best Time to Trek Dudh Kunda:

There are two best seasons to trek Dudh Kunda Trek in the year. During the Spring, the trek can be done from March to May. While in autumn, it can be done from September to November. These are the best seasons to do Dudh Kunda Trek.

Dudh Kunda Trek in Spring.

Spring Season in Nepal falls from March to May and is very stable and dry with a moderate climate. During this month, you will experience fairly perfect trekking, which offers a crystal-clear view of mountains and sceneries every day. You will see a lot of crowds on the trail as this season is the best to climb mountains.

Dudh Kunda Trek in Summer.

Summer in Nepal falls in the month from June to August. During these months, you will also experience the Monsoon run, which makes the treks nearly impossible. These months usually do not attract tourists to the Himalayas. The rains in the hilly area wash the bridges, slippery trails, leeches, and landslides.

Dudh Kunda Trek in Autumn.

Autumn is another best season of Dudh Kunda Trek. Autumn falls in the month from September to November. The weather will be perfect, and the view of the surroundings will be unforgettable. During the initial month of September, you may experience the leftover Monsoon. As of October starts, the weather will be clear with a cool environment.

Dudh Kunda Trek in Winter.

Winter in Nepal falls from December to February. Trekking to higher altitudes will be challenging and impossible to cross the three passes during the trek. The temporary Teahouse lodge will also remain closed during the winter. So, Dudh Kunda Trek is impossible to trek in the winter season.

Dudh Kunda Trek Difficulty:

Dudh Kunda Trek has short trekking days and short climbs. So, it is rated as a moderate trek because it requires less endurance and less chance to expose the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

Getting to the details, this 10-day trek climbs from 1300m. to 4560m. That is almost an altitude gain of 3300 m. You have to walk normally 5 to 6 hours a day. This climb is one of the moderate during the trek. But it may reveal the chance of altitude sickness if you are not alert.

Safe and sanitary treks of your dreams

Buddhi Rai led my wife and I (and 9 other U.S trekkers aged 40s to 80) on a trek on the Tibetan Plateau (Mustang) and a elephant-and-rhino safari by foot and canoe in Chitwan National Park in October 2025. We took two other treks led by Buddhi to Tsum Valley (2022) and rhododendron trails near Annapurna (2024). On all three treks, his team put safety first and met each trekker's daily needs, including healthy meals/water and helping hands (and/or rides) when needed. We were introduced to Buddhi by his friend/mentor Sydney Frymire from the Washington DC area and New York. Sydney described her Nepal trek experiences in her (Amazon) book, "How a Cup of Masala Tea Changed My Life." Buddhi and many of his guides and staff come from near Basa, his home village.

He has impressed us as an outstanding leader with deep experience and an extremely professional and trustworthy organizer. On our trips, he handled the sometimes-complex challenges and unavoidable surprise situations brilliantly, always finding safe and sensible solutions.
