Holy Gosainkunda Lake is an alpine freshwater that is inside Langtang National Park of Rasuwa district of Nepal. This lake remains frozen from October to June for about six months. As it melts, this lake mix to Trishuli river, one of Nepal's biggest rivers.

According to Hindu mythology, this lake and the surrounding is the home of Lord Shiva and Lady Gauri. Lord Shiva created this lake to cool his stinging throat after drinking poison as per the holy books. This holy lake is famous to Hindu pilgrims from all over the world. Many devotees come to this place during the Janai Purnima and Ganga Darshan Festivals.

Langtang Gosainkunda Trek is not only rich in holy sites but also rich in diverse nature and culture. You will be welcomed with majestic mountains, floras and faunas, and beautiful nature. This trek is popular among both local and foreign tourists who have faith in both Hindu and Buddhists. During the trek, you will get to know the bond of Nepali culture and nature. If you have any queries about the trek to Gosainkunda or any other treks, feel free to contact us.

Gosainkunda Trek Route

Gosainkunda Trek Itinerary starts from the Kathmandu Valley moving towards the Dhunche from where we start our trek. We pass the rugged trail with the scene of slowing emerging Laurbinayak. From there, we hike towards the Sing Gompa, heading up to the Gosainkunda Lake. We capture the beautiful sight of the Sing Gompa and explore it on our way to the destination. We can experience the typical Tibetan culture in that area. We come across grazing pastures in areas surrounded by beautiful mountains. We can witness glorious Ganesh Himal, HimalChuli, Manaslu range, and Langtang liurung from a close distance. After a short hike up into the high land pastures, we reach our destination; Gosainkunda. We roam around the Gosainkunda for a day. We can find other small lakes accompanying the Gosainkunda. We spend a whole day exploring this beautiful lake, knowing about the history and importance of the Nepalese society and capturing this beautiful moment. Snow-capped mountains all around you with deep blue sky and lake, you will be grateful that you visited this heavenly place.

On the very next day, we leave for Melamchi valley crossing the moraines reaching Ghopte afterward. We take a break and keep our ascend towards the Kutumsang afterward. We encounter a beautiful rhododendron forest on our way with some beautiful villages side by. We keep on moving on a trail through the ridge, reaching the Chisapani. We hike up to the Sundarijal, from where we will head back to Kathmandu with a short drive. This is how our journey goes.

Gosainkunda Trek Difficulty

According to the trip's landscape, trial, and duration, Gosainkunda Treks is rated as a medium-level trek. We will rate the difficulty on the basis of age factor, trekking habits, physical fitness, itinerary, and the season you are trekking in. these reasons will decide whether the trek is easy or hard.

If you are a beginner and have not trekking yet, we recommend you do some basic cardio. This is a medium trek, but you should have good stamina to be safe from altitude sickness. Just try some basic exercises like jogging, hiking, swimming, and other physical activities. During the trek, always hydrate your body with safe and clean-treated water. Dehydration is the biggest enemy during the trek, and you can boost your energy by drinking adequate water.

Gosainkunda Trek Permit

Trekking Information Management System (TIMS)
TIMS card is compulsory for all the tourist except Nepalese during the trek in Nepal. It will cost USD 20 per trekking route per person per entry.

Langtang National Park Entry Fee

This trek crosses the Langtang National Park, and it is compulsory for everyone to pay an entry fee during the trek. So you will need to pay USD 30 per person per entry to trek Langtang Gosainkunda.

Best Season to Trek Gosainkunda

In order to see the best view, we will suggest trekking during the best season as mentioned below. You can able to trek to Gosainkunda for the whole year, but skipping slippery roads and heavy snow will benefit you. You will also get a beautiful and memorable experience during the trek. Whereas, if you like to trek in less crowded and prefer more challenges, you can surely try off-seasons.

Spring Season in Gosainkunda Trek
The spring season falls from March to May and is the best season to trek Gosainkunda. The trials will be full of adventure lovers, and this is the best time to see a magnificent and clear picture of the Himalayas and beautiful nature. During the spring season, the forest is decorated with many colorful rhododendrons and the chirping sound of birds.

Autumn Season in Gosainkunda Trek
The autumn season falls from September to November, which is another best season for Gosainkunda Trek. The autumn season lies just after the monsoon so that you will see the washed environment and fresh air. This season will come to life, as the hills will be refilled with lush and vibrant views. The views will be clear, and able to see the beautiful White Mountains. This is also the best season if you want to witness the Nepalese festival because the Hindu’s biggest festival lies in these months. Such festival includes Dashain, Tihar, and Chhat.

Winter Season in Gosainkunda Trek
The winter season falls from the month of December to February month, and this is the least favorite season for the trek. You will experience the cold weather and difficulty in trekking. As the Gosainkunda is somehow at a lower altitude, you can trek with proper equipment and clothes.

Summer Season in Gosainkunda Trek
The summer season falls from the month of June to August, and this is the hottest season of the year. You will also experience frequent rainfall that leads to slippery and uncomfortable trials. Trekking in this season will lead to danger, as there may be landslides during the monsoon rain in the hilly region.

Safe and sanitary treks of your dreams

Buddhi Rai led my wife and I (and 9 other U.S trekkers aged 40s to 80) on a trek on the Tibetan Plateau (Mustang) and a elephant-and-rhino safari by foot and canoe in Chitwan National Park in October 2025. We took two other treks led by Buddhi to Tsum Valley (2022) and rhododendron trails near Annapurna (2024). On all three treks, his team put safety first and met each trekker's daily needs, including healthy meals/water and helping hands (and/or rides) when needed. We were introduced to Buddhi by his friend/mentor Sydney Frymire from the Washington DC area and New York. Sydney described her Nepal trek experiences in her (Amazon) book, "How a Cup of Masala Tea Changed My Life." Buddhi and many of his guides and staff come from near Basa, his home village.

Trip of Lifetime.

Buddhi, Thank you so much for such a beautiful trip. It was lovely meeting you and sharing this experience with you and the team. Thank you for your guidance and coordination with everything. Until next time! Buddhi, I feel very grateful to have received you as a gift from Sydney. There is no need to forget. We will all need our time to grief and feel her memory. Once we are ready, we all will find a way to open the new chapter that she would have love that we all write together! See you soon! From USA.

Gokyo Valley Trek 2026/2027

Trip of Lifetime. 2

“Buddhi has been our lead guide and organizer on three Nepal treks since 2017. He has impressed us as an outstanding leader with deep experience and an extremely professional and trustworthy organizer. On our trips, he handled the sometimes-complex challenges and unavoidable surprise situations brilliantly, always finding safe and sensible solutions. I would never choose a different guide for my next trek in Nepal. Ingrid & Hans Schulz” From USA.

Trip of Lifetime. 3

Namaste to you Buddhi.
You were and will always be a source of inspiration to me!
Your way of walking “the path” … one step at a time was more than just “guide-man-ship”.
It has been a mantra for reinforcing my life every day.
I hope I return to Nepal as well. ❤️
My memories of the beautiful country and people are etched in my heart forever!
Next time a gentler trek! ;)…
I’m glad to hear your family doing well. Don’t forget to send those pictures from time to time! :)
Sending love to them and you! From USA.
❤️❤️❤️
