Trip Overview

About The Trip

Milke Danda Trek also called Rhododendron garden Trek is the is an elevated forest trek in Tamur Valley and Arun in the eastern part of Nepal. You will be amazed to wander into the dense forest and hills into the Himalayas. This is comparatively an easy trek that passes through the beautiful green valley and remote settlements of Nepal. Trekking to Mike Danda illustrates the mesmerizing outlook of numerous peaks including Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and many more. This trial has attributes of attracting visitors with beautiful landscapes and many diverse rhododendron trees. Exploring the lifestyles of local people and the village where they live is an indispensable role of this trek.

Overview

Milke Danda Trek is heaven for those tourists who are nature and flower enthusiastic. This trek is one of the most underrated treks which is also called Rhododendron garden Trek or Lali Gurash Trek located in the Makalu Region. You will be thrilled to know that, this alone trek has around 29 species of rhododendron and 26 species of orchids. If you visit this region in spring (March-May), then you will witness rhododendron, natural hills, and other diverse vegetation.

This is an easy trek with the hills ranging from 2500 m to 3600 m altitude from sea level. Milke Ridge Trek is a Himalayan wilderness walk through the natural trials inside the forests. This trek has ecological variations from subtropical to alpine vegetation. This trek offers Himalayan panorama views including Mt Everest (8848. 86 m), Makalu (8463 m), Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586 m), Mt. Kumbhakarna (7710 m), Mt. Lhotse (8516 m), and many more.

This trek also gives you the best cultural experience of different ethnic peoples. Mainly. You will see Sherpa, Gurung, and Rai peoples during the trek. Milke Danda is also somehow good for those looking to see the culture and lifestyle of indigenous. You will experience small settlements of local people, lifestyles, and warm hospitality.

Milke Danda Trek Route

Milke Danda Trek 14 days Itinerary starts with the scenic fly to Biratnagar and then drives 5-6 hours to Basantapur. The next day, you will trek to Chauki which may take around 5-6 hours. As you descend gradually, the forest reveals a stunning view of mighty mountains. Continuing to walk, you will reach Bhaisi Kharka and then to Gupha Pokhari. You will be amazed to see the distant mountains and crustal clear water lake on the top of the hill. Furthermore, you will escort towards Milke Danda which is the final destination of your trek. After some best time at Milke Danda, you will start to descend to Bhalukhop, Jaljala, and then Chainpur. The trail gets easier as you descend through the beautiful trail to the charming village. As you descend lower, you will pass through Phapung and then Tumlingtar. You will end the trek as you fly to Kathmandu via Tumlingtar.

Milke Danda Trek Difficulty

Milke Danda is an easy trek, which is best for the family or old aged people. This trek is also best for first-time trekkers and ideal for nature admirers. The highest elevation of this adventure is 3,690 meters above sea level at Milke Danda. The normal trekking hours for Mohare Danda is about 5-6 hours. Since it is a lower altitude trek, anyone with no high-altitude trekking activity can begin on this trek.

Best Season for Milke Danda Trek

Milke Danda Trek in Spring

Spring is considered one of the best seasons to trek and climb in Nepal which falls between March to May. This season is not only best because of the weather but because of the gorgeous growing landscape and of course the rhododendron. As this is Rhododendron Trek, you will be able to see rhododendron full of forest.

Hiking Nepal in the spring comes with the rewards of any springtime activity. You will be amazed to see beautiful, blooming flowers and mild temperatures. But you may experience the chilly day early on. You can expect mild temperatures are the norm in lower elevation, making trekking in Mohare Danda very pleasant. Elevations above 4000m normally have moderate temperatures, making way for cloudless skies and warm weather.

Milke Danda Trek in Summer

The monsoon season runs from June until August, so your standard summer vacation may not apply in Nepal. Trekking during this time of year is dangerous and discouraged. Monsoon season in Mohare Danda also means warm, humid conditions that would make for uncomfortable trekking weather. The lower part is completely soaked with rain, mud, and even leeches.
But this by no means indicates this season is totally off-limits for Makalu Region. You will still get to enjoy the rain-washed environment and diverse wildflowers. Because of its offseason in Nepal, this time of year is mostly to be low crowded in the trial.

Milke Danda Trek in Autumn

Autumn is considered the best trekking season in Nepal which runs from September to November. Spring may have the risk of some cooler afternoons, you can almost guarantee sunshine and cloudless skies all day long. Autumn in Nepal means moderate temperatures and pretty excellent trekking topped with incredible views. You will be able to see a far distance because the dust and pollution are cleared from the atmosphere by the monsoon. It is always safe to begin the trek around the middle of September. On the opposite end, beware once you hit December, the temperatures can fall.

Milke Danda Trek in Winter

For the many travelers, those December to February could mean a miserable trek Mohare Danda. Winter climate ranges from 9 to 12 degrees Celsius during the daytime, to below zero at night. The Makalu region, in particular, is far less crowded than in the Autumn.

Safe and sanitary treks of your dreams

Buddhi Rai led my wife and I (and 9 other U.S trekkers aged 40s to 80) on a trek on the Tibetan Plateau (Mustang) and a elephant-and-rhino safari by foot and canoe in Chitwan National Park in October 2025. We took two other treks led by Buddhi to Tsum Valley (2022) and rhododendron trails near Annapurna (2024). On all three treks, his team put safety first and met each trekker's daily needs, including healthy meals/water and helping hands (and/or rides) when needed. We were introduced to Buddhi by his friend/mentor Sydney Frymire from the Washington DC area and New York. Sydney described her Nepal trek experiences in her (Amazon) book, "How a Cup of Masala Tea Changed My Life." Buddhi and many of his guides and staff come from near Basa, his home village.

He has impressed us as an outstanding leader with deep experience and an extremely professional and trustworthy organizer. On our trips, he handled the sometimes-complex challenges and unavoidable surprise situations brilliantly, always finding safe and sensible solutions. Namaste to you Buddhi.
You were and will always be a source of inspiration to me!
Your way of walking “the path” … one step at a time was more than just “guide-man-ship”.
It has been a mantra for reinforcing my life every day.
I hope I return to Nepal as well. ❤️
My memories of the beautiful country and people are etched in my heart forever!
Next time a gentler trek! ;)…
I’m glad to hear your family doing well. Don’t forget to send those pictures from time to time! :)
