Trip Overview

About The Trip

Ganja La Pass Trek is the least trekked and adventurous trail of the Langtang region. Ganja La Trek requires experience, technical skills, and assist of a guide. Ganja La Pass Trek offers the exploration of Tibetan-style Tamang Villages. This trek is the combination of panoramic Himalayan views like Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Yala peak, Gauri Shanker, and many more. Ganja La Pass Trek at an elevation of 5122m is the main highlight of this tour.

Overview

Langtang Valley Ganja La Pass Trek 14 days is a challenging trek starting from Langtang village that gradually becomes adventurous and challenging towards the Ganja La Pass. Experience the thrill of being at Tserko Ri and show out the climber in you at Ganja La because Ganja La is a technical pass.

Soak into the lush valleys, rhododendron, oak, and bamboo forests with a wonderful picture of distant snow-capped mountains. At the first part of the trek, you will walk through the forest and rocky trials. As you ascend slowly it becomes closer to the giant Langtang and other ranges at Tserko Ri and from Ganja La. The Tamang, Sherpa, and Tibetan-influenced cultures with their fluttering flags, gompas, Buddhist shrines; will keep you emotionally connected to this Himalayan land.

As this Ganja La Pass is somehow challenging. So you need a good level of physical fitness and regular exercise is required. However, if you can manage to walk 5-6 hours a day with a positive mindset then this trek is surely for you.

Ganja La Pass Trek Route

Our trek starts with the adventure ride from Kathmandu to Syabru Bensi. From there we will be following the Langtang River to the east to Lama Hotel, Mundu, and finally to Kyangjing Gompa. From here you will be able to witness magnificent peaks like Mt Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak, Dorje Lakpa, and Kangchenpo. You can even visit the Yala Cheese Factory started in 1955 by the Swiss Association.

The main challenging task of this trek is to reach the highest point of this trek Ganja La Pass Pass at an altitude of 5122m. The route is basically above 3,000m (10,000ft) and the highest point of this trekking, is Ganjala Pass (5,122m). On Ganjala, since the last few 100m trails are dangerous, ropes are used for safety. As we will descend from the pass, we will additionally pass through wonderful rice terraces and various extraordinary Buddhist monasteries around the delightful Tarke Gyang, and Malemchigaon. We will finally conclude our trek as we reach Melamchi and drive back to Kathmandu Valley.

Difficulty Level of Ganja La Pass Trek

In terms of the Ganja La Pass Pass Trek Difficulty, we will rate it as the medium trek for normally healthy persons. The trail is easy in the lower altitudes but while you climb Tserko Ri and Ganja La Pass you may face some challenging factors. The trail becomes narrow as we walk further uneven ledge. The greatest challenge of this pass is on the south side, there are chances of landslides. Several people have got lost there so a highly skilled guide and support team is highly favored.

Best Season for Ganja La Pass Trek

The best time to go for the Langtang Ganjala Pass Trek is in (February – late May) spring and (September – late November) in autumn. The weather tends to remain stable in spring and autumn, with clearer views. But the pattern doesn’t remain the same.

Ganja La Pass in spring

Spring month starts from March and continues up until May. You will feel excellent, and temperatures at high altitudes are still cold during the early season. You can easily trek without any difficulties in this season. Forest inside Langtang National Park starts to blossom, giving the forest new greener looks, which feel amazing. You will get a chance to see many exotic and even endangered wildlife on the way to trek.

Around mid-spring, the temperature in lower elevation starts to rise, and it will be even hotter in late spring. Still, the upper elevation is perfect to trek during this weather. You will experience the blossom of flowers in the entire lush green forest in late spring. Green hills and snow-capped mountains in the backdrop view are amazingly stunning.

Ganja La Pass in Summer

June to August months fall in the summer season in Nepal and are also known as the monsoon or rainy season. During this season, you will experience the super-hot in the lower region, especially in the eastern region of the Terai and Hilly region.

The month of June is the pre-monsoon period, and temperature declines during the downpours and thrives on sunny days. Clouds are most likely covers majestic views of mountains, but you may see mountains occasionally. From July to August, you may experience frequent rainfall in Ganja La Trek. Flight cancellation happens during these

Ganja La Pass in Autumn

The autumn season starts from September to November when the monsoon is just leaving its effect. But still, the possibility of rainfall is high in the first two weeks. Rain steadily decreases, and moderately skies become clear where the green rich forest and stunning snow-capped mountain views will come to life. During the season, the trek route will be perfect with not much wind or clouds resulting in the best view of nature and mountains.

The autumn season is also the perfect time of the year, and many Nepalese festivals fall in this season. Taking part in local culture and celebrations is an experience not to be missed. During the late autumn, you will encounter cool weather at high altitudes. The number of tourists will slowly decrease in late autumn. Even the weather is cold; it doesn’t affect the spectacular view of the mountains.

Ganja La Pass Trek in Winter

December to February is the winter season in Nepal. It is moderately cold at high altitudes, but the perspectives of the landscape are crystal clear. In mid-winter, massive snowfall will make your trek tough or impossible sometimes. These high-altitude areas will be excessively challenging at this time. You can pass the trail but only with the best trekking gears.

As the weather at a high altitude is challenging, it will add to the adventure. In the late winter, the temperature starts to improve. The snow deposits begin to meltdown, and wildflowers start to blossom everywhere at the lower altitudes.

Safe and sanitary treks of your dreams

Buddhi Rai led my wife and I (and 9 other U.S trekkers aged 40s to 80) on a trek on the Tibetan Plateau (Mustang) and a elephant-and-rhino safari by foot and canoe in Chitwan National Park in October 2025. We took two other treks led by Buddhi to Tsum Valley (2022) and rhododendron trails near Annapurna (2024). On all three treks, his team put safety first and met each trekker's daily needs, including healthy meals/water and helping hands (and/or rides) when needed. We were introduced to Buddhi by his friend/mentor Sydney Frymire from the Washington DC area and New York. Sydney described her Nepal trek experiences in her (Amazon) book, "How a Cup of Masala Tea Changed My Life." Buddhi and many of his guides and staff come from near Basa, his home village.

Buddhi, Thank you so much for such a beautiful trip. It was lovely meeting you and sharing this experience with you and the team. Thank you for your guidance and coordination with everything. Until next time! Buddhi, I feel very grateful to have received you as a gift from Sydney. There is no need to forget. We will all need our time to grief and feel her memory. Once we are ready, we all will find a way to open the new chapter that she would have love that we all write together! See you soon! From USA.

Trip of Lifetime. 2

“Buddhi has been our lead guide and organizer on three Nepal treks since 2017. He has impressed us as an outstanding leader with deep experience and an extremely professional and trustworthy organizer. On our trips, he handled the sometimes-complex challenges and unavoidable surprise situations brilliantly, always finding safe and sensible solutions. I would never choose a different guide for my next trek in Nepal. Ingrid & Hans Schulz” From USA.

Trip of Lifetime. 3

Namaste to you Buddhi.
You were and will always be a source of inspiration to me!
Your way of walking “the path” … one step at a time was more than just “guide-man-ship”.
It has been a mantra for reinforcing my life every day.
I hope I return to Nepal as well. ❤️
My memories of the beautiful country and people are etched in my heart forever!
Next time a gentler trek! ;)…
I’m glad to hear your family doing well. Don’t forget to send those pictures from time to time! :)
Sending love to them and you! From USA.
❤️❤️❤️
